Join us as we sail from Shetland from Bergen and back. This is a route well-travelled by many a sailor, from our Viking ancestors to the modern-day annual Bergen - Shetland Races. This exciting trip across the North Sea is always fun!

Boarding the Swan at 4.00pm, your day will begin with a comprehensive safety briefing including how to work the lines on deck and set the sails. We will then put this into practice, enjoying getting hands-on with the sailing as you depart Lerwick and spend the night anchored at Aithvoe in Bressay to makes sure everyone has their sea-legs ready!

Leaving early the next morning, you set out to cross the North Sea to Bergen. The Swan is expected to arrive in Bergen on the Friday evening or Saturday depending on the weather, ready for the Norwegian National Day parade on Saturday May 17th. Two days will be spent exploring the Norwegian coastline before returning to Bergen to clear Border Agency paperwork and returning to Lerwick in the morning of Thursday 22nd. Depending on weather conditions, the boat may arrive early, but passengers will stay on board and enjoy a last evening together sharing stories of their trip.

During the voyage you will take part in every aspect of working this 125-year-old traditional wooden vessel, including watch duties and taking a turn at the helm, all under the supervision of our experienced Skipper and Mate.

A voyage on Swan is very much a hands-on experience - you are part of her crew, and work as a team to make your voyage happen. All tasks are shared, and everyone joins in, from the most to the least experienced. For more details of what to expect on board please refer to our Welcome Aboard leaflet.
